Meme images almost never change, new ones get added, and one–offs exist, but typically business cat, and good guy greg will always be the same base image.
This is a waste of bandwidth, providers can't cache the image because those funny little punch–lines always change, so everytime a page request happens, another trip to the server takes place for the image too. Surely we can cache the base image, and massage the punchline into something less... bandwidthy.
This example utilizes regular old fonts, spread out over an image with CSS. Another step would be to cache every letter of the alphabet, and utilize those.
